On the final day of winter break, the Lady Kougar C Team traveled up north I65 to take on Merrillville. A sluggish start against a tough athletic DAC squad put the Kougar in a hole 10-1 after the first quarter. The Lady Pirates would extend their lead with an 11-4 2nd frame. The Lady Kougar found themselves down 23-5 at halftime. The coaches challenged the Kougars in the locker room to come out and compete like they have played before. The ladies responded with hard nose defense and well executed offensive sets to turn the tables on the Pirates. The 3rd quarter saw KV out score Merrillville 10-2 eating into the deficit. Down only 10, the Kougars dug deep and played their opponent even in the 4th to fall 32-22. When they could have gotten down and given up, the Lady Kougars showed a lot of heart and did not back down after their first half struggles. Their record now stands at 5-2 with one final C Team match up at Munster, Wednesday, January 14th, 6pm. Tinley Van Meter had 9, Riley Jones 6, Maci Schoon 5, and Brooklyn Whitt 2.
