The Lady Kougars welcomed in county rival Rensselaer Central to the valley tonight and defending state runner ups. Defense, defense and more defense happened in tonight's rival contest. To start the night we celebrated out three seniors Reese Van Meter, Elyce Gillet, and Kierra Plummer. Low scoring first quarter with it ending in Rensselaer advantage 6-5. Rensselaer capitalized on some of KV missed defensive rebounds and made the Kougars pay with winning the second quarter by a score of 7-14 which concluded the half with halftime score of 20-12. The Lady Kougars were challenged again at halftime to have a great effort in the 3rd quarter and they did just that with outscoring Rensselaer 8-6 in third. Rensselaer was up by 6 going into the 4th quarter. The Kougars buckled up and went on a run to start the 4th and took the lead with approximately 4 minutes left to go at 26-27 in KV favor. KV held with 1 point lead until 2:56 seconds left, unfortunately Courtney Matthew from Rensselaer and currently a D1 recruit took into her own hands and hit a tough contested pull up jumper. Score was 31-27 with 21 seconds to go and KV had to foul as Rensselaer was trying to run the clock down. Kamri Rowland hit both free throws to make it 33-27 game. With 14 seconds left Olivia Adams scores a big bucket down low to make it a 29-33 game. The Lady Kougars had to foul again and Rensselaer capitalized on their free throws and the final score ended up being 29-38. The Lady Kougars record is now 17-4 and look to foward to playing @ Portage on Thursday night. Thank you to our three seniors on the impact that you have on this basketball program. Shout out to the best band in the state for keeping our gym pumped up. Keep showing up band! Thank you community for showing out tonight and supporting and we are hoping we have that support moving forward next week as we host Sectionals at KV. Scoring tonight was led by Olivia Adams 16, Mallorie Rose 5, Jenna Walker 3, Camry Kruger 3, and Maci Capps 2. The JV took a huge home win tonight and look to get another one this thursday night!
