Girls Varsity basketball advances to championship round

By Trenton Walstra | Feb 6, 2026 10:49 PM

The Lady Kougars had the late game tonight in the semifinal round of sectionals. With a low scoring first quarter Lowell had the lead 10-8. Average defense and slow offense by the Kougars, but started to show some life in the 2nd quarter behind Jenna Walkers back to back 3 pointers! Lowell and the Kougars took this game tied at 24-24 to half. No huge adjustments were made by the Kougars at halftime, but just needed to be better in transition defense and rebounding the basketball. Good start to 3rd quarters have been common for the Kougars, but not tonight. The offense was stagnant, could not buy a bucket. Lowell held the Kougars to just 4 points in the 3rd quarter. With Lowell scoring 9 in the third the Red Devils were up 33-28 going into the 4th quarter. It was win or go home for the Kougars now and their season was on the line. With only 4 minutes left to go the Kougars trail 31-38 and Coach Walstra calls a must needed timeout. We all know what was said in that timeout, its not or never ladies go get this win. The Kougars jumped out of that timeout and went on a 7-0 run to tie the game 38-38 with 3:38 seconds left to go. Huge quick turnover in just over 1 minute and 30 seconds the Kougars scored 7 points. From there the Kougars went to their bread and butter and got Olivia Adams isolated and she executed with a huge bucket inside. With 46 seconds left to go Kougars are up by 1 and Lowell has possession of the ball. Mallorie Rose comes up with a huge steal and then Maci Capps heads to the free throw line. Capps goes 1 for 2 at the line and Kougars are up by 2. Devils end up fouling again and Mallorie Rose goes 1 for 2. Kougars are up by three with 5.4 seconds on the clock. Lowell in bounds the ball trying to get last second shot and is called for a traveling violation and the Kougars are victorious yet again! The Ladies play for the sectional championship tomorrow night vs Hanover Central @ 6:30. Leading in scoring was Jenna Walker 14, Mallorie Rose 11, Olivia Adams 10, Camry Kruger 7, Maci Capps 1. Final Score 43-40.
