Varsity vs Rensselaer Central (3 - 2) Win After all the rainy weather, today felt like a normal day of boys tennis season; it was scorching. The sun beamed down on our players so much that during warm ups, Coach DeVries warned the Kougars about tiring themselves out too much. Rensselaer arrived with plenty of time to warm up, and the matches started on time. The Bombers wanted to make sure that everyone on our large team got to play and compete, doing up to three playbacks with those matches being one set to four. Some JV players, like Micah VanderMeer, even played both doubles and singles! After players finished matches, some commuted all the way to the soccer field to enjoy concessions while others watched their teammates. Multiple yearbook students came by to document the day, and after his match, Duke Blanco joined them to snap photos too. Numerous varsity matches went to third sets. Rallies lasted a long time, with the smallest mistake being the difference. The Bombers were very skilled competition. The overall score became 2-2. #3 singles Carson Armstrong did not know it, but his match would be the deciding factor in which school would be victorious. Both teams watched and cheered at every point. After securing an impressive win, Coach DeVries gave Armstrong a game ball with his name and score to keep as a trophy. In another big moment to celebrate the team’s win, Coach DeVries got a surprise splash attack from the water cooler. - JV Coach Lauren Anderson
