Varsity vs Wheeler Win As the Kougars arrived to the courts, adjustments were discussed. Wheeler had six varsity players to compete for the evening, so #3 singles was forfeited. As for the JV, they were able to get together and play some inter-team matches. The breeze outside was definitely a factor for gameplay today, with cold gusts hitting at random times. Good, controlled form was incredibly important. On court #5, Luke Schepel played his #1 singles match. Their rallies were very long and strenuous, with neither of them wanting to let any shot go. A small crowd watched his match closely, giving polite praise for successes. Schepel walked away with the win. Another rather intense match was on the neighboring court with #2 singles Carson Armstrong and his opponent. They would often go to deuce and have to really fight to end a game. Armstrong had great placement shots, but his opponent was very quick and worked very hard to get to everything. Armstrong maintained a level head, and secured both sets. With the wind getting more bitter, some of the crowd started to disperse. The JV players began a second match against each other, this time with new partners that was decided by the flip of a coin. They had a lot of fun, with loud laughter between points. #1 doubles duo Nathan Hanson and Oliver Dutton played the longest match of the evening. Hanson had numerous great plays at net, sometimes even with a 360 spin during his return hit. He also did a good job at seeing when an alleyway shot was available, having very controlled and precise hits down the side. In the last game, Dutton also performed well at net. He kept his feet active and worked hard to cover the court and leave no vulnerabilities. The Kougars were able to pick up a 5-0 victory for their last match (later this week, there are a couple of matches that need to be made up from Munster)! - JV Coach Lauren Anderson
