Kankakee Valley High School boys' cross country team lined up for the first 5k of the season on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Hebron's Dave Walker Invitational. KV placed 4th with 91 points out of 10 complete teams. Crown Point topped the field with 30 points, followed by Lowell at 58 and Hanover Central at 74. Seniors Matt Hoffman and Owen Sharp and junior Markus Terborg, all veterans, collectively ran 1:29 faster than last year. Hoffman placed 4th overall, Sharp and Terborg 17th and 18th respectively. "Note that at the end of week 3 of the season, these guys are running these times largely because they are two sport athletes, ran track in the spring, and did their homework over the summer," stated Coach Adams. "Markus tallied the greatest number of miles of anybody in the last several years at 500." A pair of freshman filled out the next two scoring sports for the Kougars. Milo Herz (25th place) and Noah Knoerzer (30th place) were the second and third freshmen in the field of runners. Luke Ehrhardt and Trent Hooper filled out the varsity roster. In the reserve race, sophomore Garrett Boer and freshman Chase Vander Meer each set good starting times for the season, and sophomore Grant Duttlinger chopped of more than 2 minutes from his time last year on the same course, running his second best career time. "As a team we are 2:40 ahead of where we were last year. Lowell, only 30 seconds. Last year, we dropped four minutes as a team time by the NCC meet, so with practices going well, and runners--even the rookies--hitting and sustaining their target paces during workouts, it's no surprise that there's some excitement in the air with the group." KV races next at home, on Saturday, August 30, at 9:00 am.
